Here is the latest Asbestos news. The team is working hard on Boiler 1. In the series of pictures, you’ll see the team put up a wind barrier while working inside to remove the asbestos from the boiler water lines. We also included a picture of blue roll offs which contain asbestos waiting to leave the plant.
Over the weekend, the Holly Plant Decommissioning Team delivered flyers to the neighborhood. Here is what was delivered in English and Spanish.
At last, the haul road is complete. The pavement is finally in place and the TRC team is ready to haul material off-site. For all the future construction engineers, here is how you pave a road:
Step 1: Stain the future road
Step 2: Pour asphalt
Step 3: Compress asphalt.
Step 4: Pour another layer of asphalt
Step 5: Use proper machines when pouring asphalt
Step 6: Brand new road – ready to go!
The TRC team and Austin Energy has completed the first phase of the project. While the haul road and parking lot are not quite complete, the team has started on the next phase of the project which is Abatement and Decontamination. This phase will last nearly 5 months and expect this phase to last from the end of January to the beginning of July.
Approximately the next 5 months will be dedicated to asbestos removal and the removal began in January and will last until July of 2012. The highly trained team has started the work and are using the following yellow steel containers to contain the asbestos while awaiting transport.
These containers hold all of the asbestos removed and will not be opened until they arrive at the certified landfills.
